Tips to Keep in Mind When Designing Your Kitchen Island

While creating and considering kitchen layout ideas, kitchen designs with island concepts may make or break a room. You don’t need to work in an interior design company in Singapore to  alter your kitchen island’s colour, material, size, and positioning to fit your needs and transform the room.

Visual attractiveness is always essential in any space. In addition to wanting functioning kitchens, we also desire kitchens that look the part. For example, when constructing a kitchen island, you must consider what material to use for the countertop. Do you want to preserve coherence by choosing a material that matches the rest of the kitchen? Or do you want a salvaged wood-raised bar or statement marble?

In addition to providing important counter space, an island offers abundant storage space. For example, huge cabinets or pan drawers within a centre island are incredibly beneficial for storing bulky or frequently-used things. In addition, islands allow for the display of cookbooks and other decorative items, providing an excellent basis for open shelves, whether on one side or the entire island.

Be Creative With Seating Placement.

A kitchen island is an excellent way to add more seats and create a more informal dining space. Seating at a kitchen island is a terrific method to create a social area and encourages people to gather on the island.

Depending on your preferences, there are many alternatives for kitchen seats, including dining seat height and bar stool height. One suggestion is to position the seating arrangement nearest to the entryway so that visitors and families gravitate towards the seated area rather than the cooking or baking area!

Try Out a Waterfall Edge.

Consider incorporating a waterfall edge into your kitchen island designs for a striking focal point. A waterfall edge is aesthetically pleasing and functional, as it protects cabinets beneath, is easy to clean, and eliminates sharp edges, making it excellent for households with young children or clumsy people.

Waterfall edges are truly indicative of excellent design, and they may assist in producing the sleek and simple appearance that consumers like in a modern kitchen. In addition, they may conceal cupboards and appliances while adding a wonderful aesthetic element. Depending on how you want to utilise the area, waterfall elements may be added to one or both sides of the island, as well as the front or rear, providing many design possibilities.

Allow Adequate Walking Space.

Consider how you will move around the kitchen and if there is enough space to go around the island when designing a kitchen. You must also evaluate whether you will be able to manoeuvre around your island when your cabinets or drawers are open.

Kitchens must be both elegant and useful; sacrificing floor space for an island will create an ugly, unpleasant appearance. The significance of walking space should be a primary concern. When arranging your arrangement, always leave a metre of walking space on one or both sides of your workbench, island, or peninsula counter. This is an effective practical and aesthetic dimension to bear in mind.

Provide Enough Sitting Space.

Instead of depending on an overhang at one end of the kitchen island seating or breakfast bar, construct a separate nook where you can fit a row of bar stools.

Give at least 60-70cm of space per person along an island so that guests have ample room for their knees and elbows to sit comfortably. This may need to be adjusted based on the type of bar stools you select, such as bulky or heavily upholstered bar stools, and swivel bar stools will also require more room.
